What You Need to Know for the Week of September 4

We gerbils are happy to return to our regularly scheduled blog after an August hiatus - we hope everyone has had a good transition back to school and is ready for fall! (Can you believe it is September already?)

This week in the library:
* On Wednesday, September 5, the library will open at 11am due to a staff meeting.
* Drop-In Chess resumes on Saturday, September 8. Continue to play chess with tutors and friends outside the library, weather permitting (indoor location is the Meeting Room).
*  We hope you will come help us begin our 125th anniversary celebration on Sunday, September 9, a day of kick-off events for the library's anniversary. The library will open at 12:30pm rather than 1:00pm, and there is a ton of cool stuff happening:
     * From 1pm-2pm in the Adult Services Room, watch a musical production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. No tickets or registration required, just come on in & grab a seat!
     * Take a tour of the Youth Department with one of our staff at 1pm, 2pm, or 3pm.
     * At 3pm, we have another special event - Chicago Reads. Listen to local literary and cultural figures read from their favorite works of literature.
     * Say hi to us gerbils!
     * Make sure you have your most valuable school supply for this year - a library card! September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, so it's the perfect time to get your first card.

Upcoming:
* September 22, ventriloquist and storyteller Sandi Sylver returns to the library from 3-4pm. Register here
* October 27, the Halloween Railroad will chug into the Meeting Room & Auditorium for its annual spooky visit - the trains run all day, so stop by!
*  Dan Gutman & Jon Scieszka are coming to Elm Place School on Tuesday, October 30 from 6:30-7:30pm (with a meet & greet from 7:30-9pm).  Pre-order a book by October 15 to receive a personalized autograph in that book, two seats at the event (per book purchase), and two meet-and-greet wristbands. To purchase books, visit the Lake Forest Book Store in person or online. Passes will be available without pre-purchase beginning October 16 - register at our events website.

Book Match
* A new title has been added to the Book Match Nooks - Tunnels by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. Enjoy!
