Who

All 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th graders living in Highland Park or attending a school located in District 112 may sign up a team of friends consisting of four to seven players (only five play at any meet).

4th and 5th graders participate in the Intermediate Division. 6th and 7th graders participate in the Junior High Division.

Any school located within the boundary of District 112 may sponsor Book Match teams. A school may have any number of students on its team. However, only five students may compete at a given match.

Team sponsors are optional. If a team does not have a sponsor one team member should be designated the contact person.

What

Book Match is a recreational reading program. Teams read from a special book list and match wits with other readers in tournaments.

The Book Match reading list is selected by the Youth Services Department. It contains fifty titles of varying difficulty and genre. The new reading list is available in the Youth Services Department beginning June 1 of each year.

How

Two to four teams participate in a match. The spokesperson of each team selects a packet of questions as the team arrives. The questions are asked round robin, twelve questions per team. All questions can be answered by the title of a book.

When

The Junior High and Intermediate lists will be available at the Library beginning June 1. Sign up at the Youth Services Department June 1 through November 15. The Book Match season begins in January and ends in April.

Where

All meets are held in the Meeting Room at the Highland Park Public Library.
The meets for 4th and 5th graders begin at 3:45.
Meets for 6th and 7th grade teams begins at 3:15.
