6/5: Renaissance Fair and Summer Reading Begins!

yrenfair.jpg

Lords and Ladies of fair Highland Park, we gerbils hope to see you on the morrow for the Renaissance Fair, for it will kick off our Summer Reading program with a royal bang like never before!

From 2-4 in the Royal Clearing Behind the Library, all sorts of wonderful activities shall entertain you - knights battling, a falconer and his falcon (we insist that the falcon steer clear of our cage), a jester, ladies-in-waiting with many royal, medieval, and Renaissance style hats, and perhaps a costumed librarian or two.

After you visit the Fair (say hi to the knights for Lancelot) come on in to the Youth Services Department to start Summer Reading!  Register online, get your reading log from the desk, and give your first in-house report.  You're also welcome to report online.  If our librarians visited your school to talk about Summer Reading, remember to bring your Royal Token to cash in and get a head start!!

Babies and parents, we've got everything all set for you this year -- you can participate online or using a paper log.  Preschoolers, the treasure chest is packed and waiting!  For Summer Readers in grades K-5, we gerbils are excited to debut the magic stone, (once helpful to our own King Arthur Pengerbil) from which you will draw a fairy coin - and check out the prize list this year! And of course, for our middle schoolers, the display cases are STUFFED with prizes, the slatwall has run out of room for display, and the Teen Reading List books are filling the shelves.

We gerbils are so excited for everything going on beginning tomorrow; we hope you are too!!! Remember, the library opens at 1, Summer Reading in-house reports begin at 1:30 (and stop at 4:30) and the Renaissance Fair goes from 2-4, rain or shine!!  We hope to see you all there!!!!

- Arthur Pengerbil, Merlin Ambrogerbil and Lancelot du Gerbil
