Online Resources of the Month: Ancestry Library Edition and Heritage Quest
Ancestry Library Edition is valuable to individuals ranging from the most committed family historians to those taking their first steps towards satisfying their curiosity about their family stories.
The foundation of Ancestry Library Edition is an extensive and unique collection of billions of historical records that have been digitized, indexed and put online since 1996.
The creators of this tool have developed efficient systems for digitizing handwritten historical documents, and have established relationships with national, state and local government archives, historical societies, religious institutions and private collectors of historical content around the world.
These digital records and documents, combined with online search technologies and tools, enable library members to research their family history, build their family trees and make meaningful discoveries about the lives of their ancestors.
Ancestry Library Edition is for In-Library use only. If you are researching outside of the library we also have Heritage Quest, which you can access online using your liibrary card. Heritage Quest is a comprehensive treasury of American genealogical sources—rich in unique primary sources, local and family histories, and finding aids. The collection consists of six core data sets: U.S. Federal Censuses, Genealogy and local history books, Periodical Source Index (PERSI), Revolutionary War records, Freedman's Bank Records, and LexisNexis U.S. Serial Set.
