Summer has arrived and along with that, summer vacations. The world is such a large and vibrant place full of excitement, wonder, and mystery. Where will you go this summer? What adventures will you embark upon? The library is here to help.
Are you thinking of going scuba diving in New Zealand? Do you find yourself fantasizing about riding around Europe on a Vespa? How about an Anthony Bourdain-inspired culinary tour of Asia? The library has an extensive collection of travelogues to help you research your getaway, all of which are free for you to use.
The following is a sampling of destinations for some of the travel videos that the library owns.
We also have travel films for places such as Mexico, Toronto, New York City, the Middle East, and many other destinations. Please ask if you’re interested in travelling somewhere and don't see something about that place. We will do our best to help.
The library also owns access to several travel research databases which are free for Highland Park residents to use.
- Quick digestible bursts of information about countries throughout the world. This is a good starting place to get a general idea of the culture of somewhere you may visit.
- National Geographic Magazine Archive (1888-now)
- Self-explanatory. This is a digitized archive of National Geographic’s entire print run starting from 1888 going to the present.
The library also owns an extensive amount of travel books. The new travel books are located in the front lobby in a special shelf near the checkout desk. The other travel books are located in the non-fiction collection inside of Adult Services. Contact a reference librarian if you need assistance acquiring travel books.
