To celebrate the library’s 125th anniversary, Chicago Tribune’s Rick Kogan hosts an afternoon featuring literary and cultural figures from throughout Chicago reading from their favorite works of literature. Readers include Elizabeth Berg, Billy Corgan, Jonathan Eig, Joseph Epstein, Aaron Freeman, Michael Halberstam, Welz Kauffman, Bill Kurtis, Donna La Pietra, Martha Lavey, Mike Leonard, Mary Schmich and Mayor Rotering of Highland Park.

The celebration continues. Noted storyteller, humorist, author, and radio personality Garrison Keillor speaks at the library. Keillor is the host and writer of A Prairie Home Companion and The Writer's Almanac heard on public radio stations across the country and the author of more than a dozen books. Complimentary tickets are required for admittance and limited to Highland Park Public Library cardholders. Cardholders can enter a drawing for tickets at hplibrary.org anytime from September 10 at 9:00 a.m. through September 11 at 9:00 p.m .
