General Library Policies on

Loan Periods, Checkout Limit, and Fines

DVD, including Blu-ray, checked out on a Library card at any given time: Ten (10) items, of which two (2) from each department may be "Hot" titles.

Video games are in addition to the 10 DVDs allowed. Limit

  • 4 Youth Dept. video games;
  • 4 Adult Dept. video games.

Nook: Must be 8 years old to check out a Nook. Nooks are available for checkout in the Youth Department. 

Highland Park Public Library cardholder only. Cardholder must be present to check out the following:

  • Adult "Hot" DVDs (including Blu-ray);
  • Adult Video Games.

Additional HPPL only: New Adult Audiobooks, JNEWBOOK 21-Day, Adult CD New, Kill-A-Watt meters.

Non-CCS Reciprocal Patrons:

  • may have 2 New YS Audiobooks on their card at any given time;
  • Kill-A-Watt meters;
  • may have up to 25 items charged out at any given time;
  • Stem kits and Ukuleles are available for check-out to Highwood residents. Check out at the Membership services desk only.

Vacation Loans: Up to six (6) weeks, limited to ten (10) items, and are renewable. Vacation loans are for items with 28-Day or 21-Day loan periods.

Renewals: 28-Day items may be renewed two (2) times. All other checked out items may be renewed once (including vacation loans). The exceptions: No renewal on "Hot" DVDs (including Blu-ray) or Curriculum material. Renewal period is for the same period as the initial checkout.

Items with Holds are not renewable. No item with a hold may be renewed.

Hot Picks: 14-day books for HP residents only. May not be renewed.

Interlibrary Loans Limit: Five (5) items requested or received at one time; fine rate $0.20 per day.

Reference materials do not circulate. Photocopies may be made, in compliance with copyright laws.

Fines are $0.20 per day. Maximum fine is $10 per item.

Fines may be paid in person or online with a credit card.
