Bob Coscarelli, professor emeritus at College of Lake County, introduces the film and leads the discussion after the showing.

During the 1960s the film studios were collapsing and the industry was looking for ways to appeal to a younger generation. Our spring film series will discuss the dramatic changes that were occurring in the film industry by looking at four new style film musicals: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, La La Land, Xanadu, and Yentl. 

La La Land, an award-winning romantic musical film, was written and directed by Damien Chazelle.  With Emma Stone as an aspiring actress and Ryan Gosling a jazz pianist respectively, the film follows their romance and separate careers.  The City of Los Angeles is the third major character, with most exteriors shot on location.
