Their new book presents stories of the people and places behind each dish while illuminating how these dishes reflect the multifaceted history of the city and the people who live there. With Eng and Hammond as your guides, discover their neighborhood favorites.
Monica Eng is a reporter for Axios Chicago and cohost of the Chewing podcast, a podcast about food. She has worked as a food, culture, and investigative reporter at WBEZ and at the Chicago Tribune, where she was nominated for five James Beard Awards for writing.
David Hammond is the dining and drinking editor at Newcity and wrote the Food Detective column for the Chicago Sun-Times. He also writes about food and drink, art, and archaeology for Wednesday Journal, the Chicago Tribune, and Better.
