The longlist for the 2018 Man Booker Prize for Fiction was recently announced. The books were choosen by the judges from a list of 171 submissions of books published in English by international authors. The books were published in the United Kingdom and Ireland between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018. The shortlist will be announced on September 20, 2018 and the winner on October 16, 2018.

This year the Man Booker Prize is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. The purpose of the award is "to promote the finset in fiction by rewarding the best novel of the year written in English and published in the Uniked Kingdom." The first prize was awarded in 1969 for Something to Answer For by P.H. Newby.

The Shortlist

The 2018 judges are Kwame Anthony Appiah (Chair), Val McDermid, Leo Robson, Jacqueline Rose, and Leanne Shapton.
