My Parents: An Introduction/This Does Not Belong to You by Alexander Hermon--Thursday, September 26, 7 pm

In two short books bound together, Hemon tells the story of his parents, immigrants to Canada, and of his own childhood in Sarajevo. Both are fascinating stories, told with subtle humor.

The Gift by Vladimir Nabakov--Wednesday, October 23, 7 pm

Nabakov's last Russian novel, written in Berlin, follows a young émigré writer named Fyodor, but, in Nabakov's words, the book's real heroine "is Russian literature."

Jazz by Toni Morrison--Wednesday, November 20, 7 pm

Middle-aged salesman Joe Trace shoots his young lover Dorcas, and Joe's outraged wife Violet attacks Dorcas' body in her coffin. What might have been the climax of another book is where Morrison begins, in this exploration of love between men and women.
