Bob Coscarelli, professor emeritus at College of Lake County, introduces the film and leads the discussion after the showing.

When her family moves to a new town, eleven-year-old Margaret makes new friends, and with them, anticipates a series of 'firsts' as they approach adolescence.  Margaret also embarks on a spiritual journey, questioning what her beliefs are, as her Christian mother and Jewish father have always left that decision up to her.  A faithful adaptation of Judy Blume's 1970 award-winning yet oft-challenged book, Kelly Fremon Craig directed this 2023 film starring Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret, Rachel McAdams as her mother, and Kathy Bates as her grandmother.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Highland Park Public Library.
