Bob Coscarelli, professor emeritus at College of Lake County, introduces the film and leads the discussion after the showing.
During the 1960s the film studios were collapsing and the industry was looking for ways to appeal to a younger generation. Our spring film series will discuss the dramatic changes that were occurring in the film industry by looking at four new style film musicals: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, La La Land, Xanadu, and Yentl.
Xanadu, a 1980 musical fantasy film, was directed by Robert Greenwald. With a disco roller rink and catchy tunes, the film follows Michael Beck's character as a struggling artist, who pursues an elusive, mysterious Olivia Newton-John. Gene Kelly, in his last film role, plays mentor to Beck.
Opening doors to information and imagination.
