Melvoin takes you inside building a show from the ground up in his book and what a showrunner's life looks like in Hollywood.

Former Highland Parker Jeff Melvoin discusses his new book Running the Show.

Melvoin's book takes you inside building a show from the ground up and what a showrunner's life looks like in Hollywood. The job covers the creative to the managerial and everything in between. Melvoin, a seasoned showrunner, shares his insider's perspective on how to call the shots and make the final decisions when choosing and writing scripts, hiring staff, casting, making the budget, and juggling schedules.

Running the Show reveals the ethical side of show running and writing with humor, integrity, and wisdom. As a writer/producer/showrunner, Melvoin has worked on more than a dozen series including Designated Survivor and Killing Eve.

He has taught courses at USC, UCLA, and Harvard, led workshops at the Sundance Institute and the International Film School of Cologne, and chairs the Writers Guild of America's Showrunner Training Program, a master class for emerging writer-producers.

Books will be for sale and the event will conclude with a book signing.

This event will be held in the Adult Services Department.
